About Noisy Robin

Noisy Robin sends alerts to your email when your search terms are mentioned on Twitter.

It has been developed because I needed to learn a couple of new technologies (see the blog) and thought it could be a useful service.

It is targeted towards people that probably don't check Twitter all the time. There are great tools like TweetDeck where you can monitor searches on your desktop, but this tool delivers search results to your email so you can see them at work in your inbox, or on the move on your blackberry, iPhone etc. We recognise that most of the world is not logged into Twitter 24/7

In fact you don't even need a Twitter account to use it!

It isn't really for you to track brand awareness etc if you are big and likely to be getting a lot of mentions. I see three main purposes:

  • You have a business or product that is likely to get a few mentions each day, or maybe each week and you want to keep track of those mentions so you can follow up if necessary.
  • You are looking for sales opportunities. Thousands of Tweets are sent out everyday looking for things. "Anyone know a plumber in Brighton", "Looking for an accountant in Richmond". Setting up a search for "plumber Brighton" or "accountant Richmond" will find these
  • There is something you are interested in tracking and would like to be alerted when something happens - for example an upcoming product "palm pre launch date"

At the moment the service has many limitations. You can only maintain 10 searches, it only searches every thirty minutes - not more not less, but there is a useable system and if people start using it more features will be added.
